Objectives
The Education Committee aims to impart both knowledge and skills
to BSE members in order to promote the delivery and advancement of
ultrasound in cardiology.
The Committee seeks to achieve its aim in a number of ways
including a programme of meetings to keep members abreast of best
practice and recent developments, guidelines and protocols covering
general and specialist echocardiography, and distance learning
modules, all to assist members in life-long learning in
echocardiography.
Guidelines and Protocols These
documents promote common, systematic and valid evidence-based
frameworks for best practice in echocardiography, covering minimum
required datasets in transthoracic and transoesophageal
echocardiography, with supplementary protocols for pathology. This
guidelins are subject to regular review and up-dating. Guidelines
and protocols are published in Echo and are released on the
web-site. There is a proposal to bind these protocols into a
practical handbook for best practice in the near future.
(guidelines can be accessed in the download section).
Patient Information Leaflets
(PIL) These common Patient Information Leaflets may be
used as templates in any Echocardiography Department. These can be
down-loaded and modified to suit local conditions as
necessary.
The Information leaflets come with supplementary information to
guide the practitioner in consenting patients for tests including
transoesophageal and stress echocardiography by outlining both
common risks and those with major impact on the patient.
