3D Echo in Structural Heart Disease

This is a two day course on the current applications of three-dimensional echocardiography in structural heart disease.
There will be a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of such technique including acquisition of 3D dataset interrogation and interpretation. A key component of the course will be
interactive sessions in which participants can crop and orientate datasets with experienced staff using Philips' QLAB software on a wide variety of congenital defects.
There will also be a session on evaluation of left ventricular function and dyssynchrony and a demonstration of 3D acquisition. The course faculty is from the Department of Congenital Heart Disease, Evelina Children's Hospital, Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

BSE Exam Preparation Course

A one or two day preperation course immediately prior to the transthoracic examination.

The faculty includes experienced BSE examiners.

The first day consists of a series of short masterclasses on the common and difficult topics in the BSE syllabus.

The second day is centred around two complete mock examinations, including video cases.  There is sufficient time for discussion of each question and most of the BSE syllabus will be covered in this format.

We will discuss relevant exam technique in addition to the exploring the BSE examination structure in detail.

A complete exam will be given to participants on the second day. Three further complete practice exams are available to the Day 2 participants to do at home in the run up to the exam

FEEL Training Day

Feel-UK is a programme intended to train practitioners in the use of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in a standard, ALS-compliant manner during the peri-resuscitation period.

The programme has been developed to meet training requirements in the UK using experience from various international courses teaching focused echocardiography in the critically ill (FEER Dr Raoul Breitkreutz, Germany, FATE Dr Erik Sloth, Denmark, SMART-echocardiography Dr Gabriele Via, Italy).

Foundation Echocardiography

This course is intended for physiologists and physicians who are starting out in echocardiography. No previous experience of echocardiography is assumed, however some previous scanning experience would be helpful.

The morning  lecture course will cover the basics of cardiac anatomy and physics. The normal echocardiographic examination will be covered in detail before discussing echocardiographic findings in acquired heart disease and simple congenital heart disease. The applications of 2D, colour and spectral Doppler will be explored.

The afternoons are devoted to small group (5 participants maximum) practical scanning sessions with an expert echocardiographer assigned to each group.  Experience of scanning both normal volunteers and patients will be available.
