Written examination

The written exam is generally the first stage of the assessment process to gain BSE accreditation. Written exams are delivered in partnership with Pearson VUE. Candidates can sit their exam at local centres across the UK, Republic of Ireland and in South Africa.

Upcoming exams
 

Autumn 2020: TTE, ACCE, TOE and Stress Echo is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 14 October 2020, 11.00 am - 1.30 pm at various Pearson VUE centres in the UK, Republic of Ireland and South Africa. Candidates must be paid BSE members and are required to complete pre-registration before booking a place on this exam. Pre-registrations opening on Wednesday 10 June and closing on Monday 13 July.

  • All candidates need to pre-register to express their interest in sitting the written exam. Please ensure you have read through the relevant accreditation pack.
  • Only BSE members can apply for BSE exams, click here to become a pre-accredited member. 
  • During membership registration, ensure that address, email and telephone number is most current.
  • Login to your BSE account before clicking the blue pre-registration button.
  • You will be asked to enter to type in full name the location of where you would like to sit the written exam. Please enter at least two preferred cities or towns. Find the Pearson VUE test centres that are closest to you. 
  • Any special requirements must be applied for in writing and approved by the BSE Chair of Accreditation. Find out more about test accommodations. 
  • Once pre-registration is complete we will transfer your information to Pearson VUE to confirm your eligibility to sit the exam.
  • Successfully pre-registered candidates will be contacted by Pearson VUE by email with further instructions on completing registration, including payment of fees.

Examination fees 

The examination fee is £250, which covers the written exam, online logbook portal and practical assessment. The fee will be paid through Pearson Vue during the booking time-frame (usually 2-3 months before the exam),

The resit fee is £125. Resits must be taken within 12 months of the first sitting.

What to expect in the written exam

Each candidate will have their own monitor and will be able to replay videos during the examination. Full instructions will be provided on the day of the exam.

Examination results

Results will be released 4-5 weeks after the exam. Results are uploaded to member profiles.
