Written examination

The written exam is the first stage of the assessment process to gain BSE accreditation (Level II). Written exams are delivered in partnership with Pearson VUE. Candidates can sit their exam at local centres across the UK, Republic of Ireland and in South Africa or via online proctoring- OnVUE.

Upcoming exams
 

Spring 2021: TTE, ACCE and Congenital Echo is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 23 March 2021, 11.00 am - 1.30 pm at various Pearson VUE centres in the UK, Republic of Ireland and South Africa. We are now offering online proctored exams, please click here for further information. 

Candidates must be paid BSE members and are required to complete pre-registration before booking a place on this exam. Pre-registrations opens on Monday 16 November 2020 and closes on Monday 21 December 2020.

Pre-registration for spring 2021 opened Monday 16 November and closes on Monday 21 December

  • All pre-registered candidates are expected to keep BSE membership payments up to date.
  • Any special requirements must be applied for in writing and approved by the BSE Chair of Accreditation. Find out more about test accommodations. 
  • Once pre-registration is complete we will transfer your information to Pearson VUE to confirm your eligibility to sit the exam.
  • Please ensure that when registering that your name should appear exactly as it does on your photograph ID.

Examination fees 

The examination fee is £250, which covers the written exam, online logbook portal and practical assessment. The fee will be paid through Pearson Vue during the booking time-frame (usually 2-3 months before the exam).

The resit fee is £125. Resits must be taken within 12 months of the first sitting.

What to expect in the written exam

Each candidate will have their own monitor and will be able to replay videos during the examination. Full instructions will be provided on the day of the exam.

Examination results

Results will be released 4-6 weeks after the exam. Results are uploaded to member profiles.
