Dr Sanjeev Bhattacharyya

Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Echocardiography

Dr Sanjeev Bhattacharyya is a consultant cardiologist at University College London Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, UK. His main sub-specialty interests are advanced heart failure, valvular heart disease and advanced echocardiography. His research interests are focussed on the application of advanced echocardiographic techniques and other modalities to better characterise and identify the optimal timing of intervention in heart valve disease.

Dr Teresa Castiello

Dr Teresa Castiello is a passionate clinician with multi-faceted experience gained in over 20 years of work between Italy, the UK, and Developing Countries. Dr Castiello undertook Medical Degree cum laude in 2001, at the prestigious La Sapienza University of Rome, Italy along with a specialisation in Cardiology, at the University Campus Bio-Medico, Rome 2009. After completing the specialisation and a long humanitarian mission in Africa, she earned a consultant post at San Raffaele in Rome, before relocating to London.

She is now NHS Consultant Cardiologist, lead of HF and cardiomyopathy services, which she both set up at Croydon University Hospital. Her imaging speciality is Cardiac MRI, which perform in Kings College London, being internationally certified with the CMR level 3 accreditation by ESC and SCMR. Alongside clinical duties, Dr Castiello is a very active participant in national and international Societies and board committees. She is currently a structural member of the Patient Care and Digital health committee of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC. And HF Educational Lead for Cardiology Trainees with the RSM. She is the new President-Elect of the Royal Society of Medicine (Cardiology Section) the first female cardiologist invested in the role. Given her specific interest in inflammatory cardiomyopathy is part of the ESC Myocardial and Pericardial Disease Working Group and the London Myocarditis Interest Group.

Dr Castiello’s research interest focuses on her areas of clinical expertise; she is the principal investigator of several trials and author and co-author of peer review papers and online educational sources. Her active collaboration in national and international society granted her the honour to be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Fellow of the Heart Failure Association. Finally, Dr Castiello is the founder and CEO of MIAL healthcare (Medici Italiani A Londra), MIAL is the only Italian-speaking hospital-based service in UK, providing multidisciplinary and personalised care with holistic approach.

Dr Julia Grapsa

Consultant Cardiologist
Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust

Dr Julia Grapsa is a consultant cardiologist at St Thomas Hospital and associate professor at King's College London. She is also a fellow for the Royal College of Physicians. Dr Grapsa’s areas of research include valvular heart disease and the study of right heart remodelling. During her PhD research, Dr Grapsa studied the right heart remodelling in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension with echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance. Dr Grapsa has served as chair of the young community for multimodality imaging for the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and as a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) education committee, leading the ESC clinical case gallery. She was responsible for ESC social media, since its birth and she has been a member of imaging and online education committees of Heart Failure Association.

Dr Liam Ring

Liam is a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in echocardiography. He has been a member of the BSE for over 10 years and has contributed in a number of ways, including writing practice guidelines. He has recently become the co-chair of the Education Committee.

Dr Shaun Robinson

Shaun is a consultant clinical scientist and cardiac science lead at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He has a specialist clinical and research interest in stress echocardiography in valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies and the athletes heart. Shaun is a regular speaker at regional and national meetings and the lead author of the BSE Minimum Dataset, BSE Mitral Valve guideline and the new BSE Diastolic function guideline

Kelly is a clinical scientist with BSE TTE and TOE accreditation. She is the lead for echocardiography at Cleveland Clinic London. Kelly has completed a doctorate in clinical science. Her interests lie in structural valve intervention. She is the BSE chair for membership resources.

Dr Lynne Williams

Consultant Cardiologist

Lynne is a Consultant Cardiologist in Advanced Imaging and Inherited Cardiac Conditions at Royal Papworth Hospital in 2013. Her clinical interests include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, inherited cardiac diseases, cardiac sarcoidosis, neuromuscular conditions, and pericardial disease. She is the Chair of the Heart Muscle and Pericardial MDT. She is a member of the BSE Member Resources Committee.

Professor S Yen Ho

Consultant Cardiac Morphologist
Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust

Prof Ho specializes in anatomy of congenital heart disease and in anatomy relevant to cardiac arrhythmias and interventions. Her work includes morphological correlates with cardiac imaging, surgery, interventions, and electrophysiology. Annually, she organizes and provides several short courses including Morphology of congenital heart malformations, Effective prenatal screening for congenital heart defects, Intervention in structural heart defects, and on Anatomy for electrophysiologists. To date, she has written/co-written >490 research papers, numerous book chapters, and 13 books including Echocardiography in Congenital Heart Disease made simple and Atlas of Real Time 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography.

Dr Rosita Zakeri

Consultant Cardiologist
King's College London

Dr Rosita Zakeri is a NIHR Advanced Fellow and Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trusts. She subspecialises in heart failure and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. She has been a member of the BSE for 13 years and is accredited in transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography alongside cardiac MRI. Rosita’s research interest is in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and she runs a dedicated clinical-academic service that uses multimodality imaging and research methods to better characterise HFpEF syndromes.
