#MyBSEcho2020

The BSEcho programme this year is very comprehensive and will be of particular interest to cardiac departments like mine who want to ensure they are at the top of their game with the routine as well as esoteric workload of a district general hospital.

I am particularly interested in the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy session.

Time Talk Speaker
6.25 pm Welcome
6.30 pm Differentials of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy by multi-modality imaging Rick Steeds
6.50 pm Exercise stress echo in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy Kate Gatenby
7.10 pm Scientist/physiologist-led stress echo clinics Martin Stout
7.30 pm Differentiating athlete's heart from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy Dan Augustine
7.50 pm BSE hypertrophic cardiomyopathy guideline Will Bradlow
8.10 pm Question and answer session

Rick is a clear expert in multimodality imaging and cardiac sonographers need to understand the limits and benefits of echo and when to consider other techniques, especially if they are not available locally.

Exercise stress echo is moving out of tertiary units and we hope to set up our own service soon. While I have used it for coronary and heart valve disease, I am interested to see how we may expand its role for cardiomyopathies – for my patients, this service has traditionally involved a trip to central London – something many patients may want to avoid at present.

We already run nurse-led dobutamine stress echo on one site and hope to empower our physiologists to get involved – Martin’s experience will be invaluable.

Finally, Dan and Will’s talks will give us more confidence in performing a comprehensive echo and making a more definitive diagnosis.

I look forward to seeing you there!
