New amyloidosis poster launched

The British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) is delighted to launch a new poster on the assessment of cardiac amyloid.

The poster includes the key data and recommendations from the 2023 publication, British Society of Echocardiography guideline for the transthoracic echocardiographic assessment of cardiac amyloidosis. Since publication, the guideline has been accessed over 16,000 times and has been cited in six articles globally.

The poster has been created by Dr Tamara Naneishvili, Cardiology Specialty Registrar ST7 and Dr William Moody, Consultant Cardiologist, both at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Moody, who was also the lead author on the guideline said, “The recent emergence of disease modifying therapies for cardiac amyloidosis means that echocardiographers now have a critical role in identifying these patients early. My hope is that this poster will serve as a useful practical reminder of what’s important not to forget when assessing any patient with unexpected increased left ventricular wall thickness. Having the confidence to raise a suspicion of amyloidosis in a timely manner will ultimately save lives.”

The poster will be sent to BSE members in the June 2024 edition of ECHO magazine and is also available to download and print at home. There will also be copies available for collection at the British Cardiovascular Society conference in Manchester, Advanced Echo in Edinburgh, the European Society of Cardiology conference in London and EuroEcho in Berlin as well as at BSEcho 2024 in Edinburgh.
