Echo images are more than just clusters of grey pixels, or flashes of disorganised colour… They can be lifesaving, beautiful, complex and even comical! We know how passionate you all are about imaging, and this is your opportunity to highlight your best work.
The British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) once again brings you the Image of the Year competition, to celebrate the fantastic work that our members do every day. We are seeking the best image taken between July 2025 – June 2026 inclusive.
Following a shortlisting process, the top four entries will be presented at the BSEcho 2026 annual conference, where the overall winner of Image of the Year will be announced. The four top images will be featured on the covers of our quarterly journal, ECHO and printed in the BSEcho 2026 conference programme.
Images will be judged not only for their clinical merit, but also considering potential comical, surprising or terrifying aspects.
Applicants should submit their echo image along with a description of 150 words with an anonymised copy of the echo report through our submission portal by Friday 26 June 2026. The description could describe the anatomy, the context, what makes it special or what makes it challenging - the world is your oyster.
Rules of engagement
- The image needs to be an echo image. It can be obtained using TTE or TOE, with or without the addition of adjuncts (i.e. contrast, bubbles, strain)
