The British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) has published a new position statement on artificial intelligence (AI) in echocardiography.
The position statement articulates the BSE’s position on the opportunities, challenges, and requirements for the safe, equitable, and effective integration of AI into echocardiography services and provides a consensus perspective from a multidisciplinary writing group including cardiologists, cardiac physiologists/clinical scientists, clinical academics, AI researchers, and patient and public representatives.
It outlines recommendations for practice, governance, workforce development, and future research developments and concentrates on the entire echocardiography workflow.
Ms Sadie Bennett, lead author of the position statement said, “It was a privilege to work with a diverse multidisciplinary group, including patient and public representatives, to develop this position statement. AI presents significant opportunities to support echocardiography services, but realising these benefits requires careful consideration of governance, education, equity and clinical accountability. We hope this position statement provides a valuable foundation for the responsible integration of AI into everyday practice.”
