Sad news about Professor Mark Monaghan MBE

Published 15/06/2023

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the death of Professor Mark Monaghan MBE.

Mark was a titan of the echo world and yet remained accessible to everyone in the community, even in his last weeks. Mark’s accomplishments in the world of echo are almost impossible to summarise and he leaves behind an incredible legacy, not just in what he achieved but also through all of those he has taught and inspired.

Over the coming months we will make time to celebrate his life but for now we would like to offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dr Claire Colebourn, President of the British Society of Echocardiography, said, "The loss of Professor Mark Monaghan MBE will be felt throughout our profession. He will be remembered by all that knew him as a deep thinker and a consummate professional. Mark was a kind and patient man who had time for everyone. He was a huge support to me in my role as President and I will miss his presence tremendously. His loss leaves a huge gap in so many lives but especially his family, friends, colleagues and patients. Rest in peace Mark and thank you for everything."

If you would like to share your memories of Mark with us, we will be happy to compile them and pass to his family in due course. Please send your memories to us at [email protected].
