Sad news about Professor John Chambers

Published 30/04/2024

It was with immense sadness that we received the news of Professor John Chambers’ death.

As a Past President of the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE), Professor Chambers made an immeasurable contribution to the development of echocardiography as we know it today.

Professor Chambers was Chief Examiner for the BSE from 1995-1998, Chair of the Education Committee from 1996-1998 and President from 2003-2005. Until recently he was also an associate editor for our peer reviewed journal Echo Research and Practice. In 2016, in recognition of his incredible impact for and on behalf of the BSE, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was renowned for being a passionate educator and mentor and expert in valvular heart disease. He was a founder of the British Heart Valve Society and was committed to driving patient care and reducing variability. Our thoughts are with Helen and the rest of his family. Over the coming months we will celebrate Professor Chambers for his groundbreaking work in echo, as well as his warm character and sense of fun.
