The British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) is delighted to open submissions to participate in the pilot project for Level 3 accreditation.
The Level 3 pilot project will establish twelve pilot scientist-led clinics across the UK, and, using our expertise in echocardiographer accreditation, will develop an advanced accreditation pathway to establish the competency requirements for practice in the clinics.
Expressions of interest are now open until Monday 13 April 2026 for BSE members to take part in the pilot. Members wishing to apply should meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Consultant cardiologist support for physiologist / scientist-led clinic in heart valve disease, heart failure or inherited cardiac conditions (supporting letter required acknowledging requirement of support and input required)
- Business manager support (supporting letter required)
- Echo department lead support (signature on expression of interest form required)
- Capacity to establish a new clinic within 6 months of the project start date
- Nominated physiologist / scientist who will run the clinics and has held BSE TTE accreditation for 5 years
- Commitment that the nominated physiologist / scientist will be released to attend the Swansea clinical skills course (costs supported by the BSE) on the designated dates
- Support for extended clinic slots to see patients and complete the administration required
- Be prepared to complete the Level 3 accreditation pathway (costs supported by the BSE) within the project timeframe
- Complete all data collection templates within set timelines and actively contribute to the final report and document templates. This is imperative for the evaluation of the project
We are anticipating a large number of expressions of interest so please ensure you collate all of the required letters of support and ensure all requirements of the project can be met in advance of submission. The success of this programme is pivotal for securing a progression pathway for the profession and so site selection will be made based on strict criteria.
Expressions of interest should be sent to [email protected] by Monday 13 April 2026 at 10:00.
